The Major Scale Speed Ladder

12 major scales • 1 & 2 octaves • 3 tempos • Play along with me

You don't need to force yourself to play faster.

You need to practice at the tempo where you can play the scale correctly—especially rhythmically—and then build from there.

That's exactly what we're going to do here.

Choose Your Play-Along

One-Octave Major Scales

Start here if you want to focus on getting your rhythm, fingers, and note changes solid before moving into two octaves.

60 BPM → 80 BPM → 100 BPM

Two-Octave Major Scales

Ready for a bigger challenge? Work through all 12 major scales in two octaves and gradually increase your speed.

80 BPM → 100 BPM → 120 BPM

How to Get the Most From This

1. Start at a tempo where you can succeed.
Don't choose the fastest tempo just because you wish you could play that fast.

2. Play along with me.
Listen carefully to the rhythm and match the tempo. Don't rush ahead.

3. If the rhythm isn't solid, slow it down.
There's no prize for playing a scale fast and getting it wrong.

4. When it feels comfortable and accurate, move up.

Think:

Accuracy → Consistency → Speed

That's your Speed Ladder.

Ready? Pick your octave, choose your tempo,

and let's play.
